About Us

The Gadsden Daily News is dedicated to the memory of all of those who took the treasonous steps to declare and fight for Independence, and especially to my ancestor, Joseph Short Tucker.

Joseph was born in Virginia in 1744. He enlisted and served in the Continental Army under Captain John Culford, was shot in the hip, and lived to fight another day. He survived the war, and in 1797 settled in Missouri, enjoying his hard won rights to pursue life, liberty, and happiness as a farmer. He built the first grist mill in the area, and in 1807, was elected Justice of the Peace, a priveledge he would not have had without his brave and treasonous steps back in 1776. Joseph lived a long and prosperous life, had several children, and when he passed away in 1816, he left $100 and a silver chalice to his church.

I am in complete awe of what my ancestor Joseph did. I am moved to tears by his sacrifice, and I believe that his patriotic spirit runs through my veins this very day, almost 200 years later.
